2017 Hyundai Tucson vs. 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport

2016 Hyundai

If you're looking for a family-friendly crossover, you couldn't go too far wrong with either the 2017 Hyundai Tucson or the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. Of course, you'll have to pick one over the other eventually, so just use our quick and easy comparison to find the right one to meet your needs.

Powertrains

The 2017 Tucson delivers either a 164-horsepower 2.0L four-cylinder engine or a 1.6L turbo four-cylinder good for up to 175 horsepower. The former comes with a six-speed automatic transmission system to achieve up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 on the highway; the 1.6L's advanced 7-speed EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission allows for a phenomenal 26 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway.

The Santa Fe Sport is a slightly more powerful, though it isn't quite as efficient. The standard 185-horsepower 2.4L four-cylinder achieves up to 21 mpg on the city streets of Glenview and 27 on the highway, or with the available 240-horsepower 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine you'll earn up to 20 and 28.

Interior Space

Space is always going to be a prime consideration if you're looking for a crossover, and we're pleased to report that both the 2017 Hyundai Tucson and the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport have got it where it counts, though the Santa Fe Sport might edge ahead if you need a little extra room.

  • Cargo Room: Up to 35.4 cubic feet as standard or 71.5 behind the front-row with the Santa Fe Sport versus 31 and 61.9 with the Tucson.
  • Passenger Space: Up to 108 cubic feet with the Santa Fe Sport versus 102.2 with the Tucson.

Features

Both the 2017 Hyundai Tucson and the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport can treat drivers to a full range of comfort, convenience, and entertainment technologies, with a hands-free smart liftgate, 8-inch touchscreen navigation system, and Infinity premium audio system with Clari-Fi music restoration technology available across both crossovers.

That said, the two do separate very slightly, so it's worth considering your own needs carefully. For example, only the 2017 Santa Fe Sport can provide an innovative 360-degree multi-view camera system, while only the Tucson can supply Apple CarPlay.
